Truancy is defined as:

  • Three unexcused absences
  • Tardy in excess of 30 minutes
  • Being absent from school without the knowledge and consent of the parent
  • Leaving the school grounds during the day without permission
  • Staying out of class without permission
  • Being signed out early from school by a parent without a valid excuse. Example: Doctors note

Consequences for truancy include Detention, In School Suspension, community service, and/or Friday School.  Repeat offenders could be referred to our local SARB (School Attendance Review Board) and/or to the Juvenile Court System.

Pursuant to Education Code 48260, a student is classified as a truant upon a third unexcused absence or tardy in excess of thirty (30) minutes.  Truancy is not a matter to be taken lightly.  We ask each and every one of our parents to make every attempt to get their child to school on a daily basis.  Students who have unexcused absences may be required to serve Friday School, and/or time in our In School Suspension Room as well as being placed on the No Activities List.  Repeat offenders could be referred to our local School Attendance Review Board (SARB) and/or the Juvenile Court System.
